The Birthday Boy

We had a unique event this year for Luke's 3rd birthday: relatives from both sides of the family were able to attend his party. Steve's parents, my parents, Steve's sister, her husband and 3 children, as well as my sister, her husband, their 4 children and my brother-in-law's parents were all here for the big bash. We decided to rent an inflatable "bounce house" for the 8 children, hoping to keep them occupied and out of the house. It was very chilly, but as you can see by the photo, the man who set up the house was kind enough to tarp it for us. It hailed about 10 minutes after he dropped it off. I was disappointed but the kids didn't seem to mind. They were freezing cold but just kept jumping. I think Steve had just as much fun as the kids: we could hear him yelling from inside the house. Our party theme was based on "Cars" the movie, one of Luke's favorites. He was a little overwhelmed by all of the activity, but perked up when we lit the candles and sang the birthday song. In fact, he sang right along with us, as loud as he could. He isn't a big fan of chocolate yet, (not sure how I could have a child that doesn't like chocolate) so we all enjoyed his cake for him. All he really wanted was the Lightning McQueen car from the top of the cake. As soon as Steve cleaned the frosting off the car, Luke wanted to hold it and drive it all over the coffee table. We were able to pry it out of his hands so he could open the rest of his presents, but then he was right back to playing with that car. He calls him "big, big queen" to distinguish it from the other smaller Lightning McQueen cars he already owns. Too funny, this boy.
